Ways to Improve Your Mental Health During a Pandemic

There are so many changes in lifestyles, work environments, and the economy that it can be hard to find time for yourself. That said, it’s more important now than ever to take note of your mental health and make sure you’re dedicating some time to your self-care. Here are a few ways to improve your mental health during a pandemic:

  1. Take a Break

With the constant changes and updates in the world’s regulations and news in regards to the coronavirus outbreak, it’s important in many aspects to take a break. In general, you should take regular breaks throughout the day. Whether you’re working from home, homeschooling, etc., be sure to take a few minutes for yourself multiple times a day.

Additionally, you should be prepared to take a full day off when you really need it most. Quarantine burn out is a world-wide occurrence and it’s important that employees and employers take note of mental health.

Lastly, it’s important to take a break from the news. Between social media, online news updates, and constant television news, it’s easy to oversaturate yourself in media right now. Pandemic media coverage is not always good news and can quickly turn your mood. So, turn off your phone, scroll past social media updates, and watch a heart-warming Netflix show instead.

  1. Create a Healthy Routine

Routine is easier when you’re not at home all day. If you are used to commuting to work, your daily routine has likely been uprooted in a major way. With that in mind, creating some sort of routine is a great way to ease your mental stress.

While many WFH tips out there advise that you get up and get ready for work every day, you don’t necessarily have to do that. If you’re comfortable and productive in jeans and a t-shirt – or even a cute pair of pajamas – don’t stress about getting dressed up. That said there are some other ways to create a unique, healthy routine.

“Breakfast is the most important meal of the day”. You’ve probably heard that saying hundreds of times – and for good reason. Eating breakfast can improve your energy and boost your mood from square one. Plus, starting off the day eating something healthy and delicious is a great thing to look forward to every day.

Another healthy addition to your daily routine is an outdoor walk. If you’re able to, it’s important to get some fresh air at least once a day. During this time, it’s easy to stay cooped up inside and skip your daily dose of Vitamin D (sunshine). There are many benefits of sunlight including:

– Increased serotonin

– Strengthens bones

– Improves skin conditions (always wear sunscreen!)

  1. Add in Simple, Healthy Exercises

It might be hard to pack in a full work out right now, but a few simple stretches can really help ease your mind and reduce body tension. Meditation is one of the best mental exercises; plus, it’s not necessarily a time-consuming activity. Just a few minutes of daily meditation has a long list of health benefits including:

  • Improved sleep
  • Weight loss
  • Stress reduction
  • Improved brain function and ability to focus

While your gym might be closed, there are plenty of other options to get in your daily workout as well. Consider searching for yoga or HIIT classes on YouTube. Or, get a breath of fresh air and take a walk around the block.

  1. Treat Yourself to an At-home Spa Day

Chances are, your local spas and beauty salons are closed and you could use a bit of revitalizing self-care. Consider dedicating a night to maintaining your hair, nails, and skin. Grab your favorite bottle of nail polish, some bath bombs, a hair mask and let the relaxation begin.

This is also a great way to spend some social-distanced time with your friends or family. Set up a time to video chat while you paint your nails or do facials. It’s like a day at the spa in the comfort of your own home!

Your mental health is the most important facet of your life, so don’t take these tips lightly. If you need a day off, make sure to express that to your peers or colleagues, you’re not alone

Six Activities to Enjoy Indoors

Chances are, the coronavirus pandemic has caused some changes in your day-to-day life. You might be spending more time indoors than out, and you’re almost certainly not out in stores shopping. That said, there are many ways to enjoy your time indoors! With the availability of technology to help, here are 6 indoor activities for you, your friends, and your family to enjoy!

Screenings with Your Friends

Many new TV shows have paused filming in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic, but you can still stream plenty of content online! Facebook has a new “Watch with Friends” feature that you can use to watch the same video with your friends in the exact same time. Plus, you’ll be able to chat directly on site. It’s not quite the same as sharing a couch, but it’ll definitely feel like you’re as close as you can get!

If social streaming isn’t an option, set up a video chat and push “play” on your favorite show at the same time. You can see and chat with your friends while watching the latest Netflix, Hulu, or HBO series.

Break Out the Baking

While you might not be able to find toilet paper, hopefully you have plenty of flour, sugar, and butter on hand. Preheat the oven and let your sweet tooth go wild! Challenge your friends to a cake baking competition and schedule a time to display your masterpieces.

With the extra time we are all spending at home, preheat your oven, break out your mixer and get to baking!

Puzzle Yourself

Challenge your mind with a brand-new puzzle! When’s the last time you cleared the dining room table to make room for a puzzle? Not only is this a mind-stimulating activity, but a large enough puzzle is guaranteed to keep you and the family busy for days!

One of the highlights of this particular indoor activity is that you don’t have to leave the house to get one! There are plenty on online order options for puzzles, so hop online and have it shipped! Plus, everyone could use a screen break right now.

Settle in with a Good Book

Especially if the weather is still cool for you, it’s the perfect opportunity to cuddle up with a good book and hot cup of tea. Audio books are great alternatives to your traditional paperback if you need a chance to close your eyes and relax.

The New York Times and even Amazon have weekly reading recommendations. That said, if trendy isn’t usually your first choice, opt for a classic!

Engage in Online Classes

With most indoor gyms shut down, you’ll still the opportunity for some physical and mental stimulation. Get you daily dose of both by exploring the variety of online classes available! Not only are you able to find free workout videos like yoga and barre, you can also find various online courses for all your current or future interests.

While they might not be led by your usual instructor, you can find just about any kind of fitness class on YouTube. It’s a great way to get a work out in with family and friends too! Or, challenge your friends and family to a mental challenge by getting some sort of certification online!

Utilize Your Stationary

Your older relatives or family friends might also be feeling lonely while social distancing. Brighten their day by sending them a hand-written card or note. If you have the materials and the time, consider adding a personal touch by using or creating some custom stationary.

If you don’t have custom stationary on hand, break out your colored pencils and get creative! Your loved ones will certainly appreciate the thoughtful gesture, and who knows, you might end up with a new pen pal!

Dust Off Your Old School Games

The classics, like Scrabble and Monopoly, are all great time-passing games. While they might be buried in your closet, now is a great time to dust them off and bring them out for a brain-stimulating activity. Also, if your children are out of school, games like these give them the opportunity to practice reading and counting. Start a game tournament and keep a tally of the winners on a nightly or weekly basis! There’s never been a better time for some friendly competition.

While you might be spending more time than usual at home, there’s no reason you can’t make the most of your space and time. With technology allowing you to connect with distant friends and family, you can gather your group to spend time together like you’re in the same room! Plus, it’s a great time to start that scrapbooking project you swore you’d get to. Stay in and stay healthy!

Spring Cleaning Tips: Making Room in Your Closet for Spring Trends

With spring weather comes a brand-new opportunity for a change in wardrobe. That said, before you break out the spring fashion trends, dig into your closet and clean it out. This year, make your closet the one you’ve always dreamed of. With our tips below, you’ll be enjoying your newly organized dream master closet in no time.

Clean it Out

Chances are, there are clothes in your closet you haven’t worn in a very long time. Dusty hangar, old dresses, and items buried in tall stacks means it’s time to clean it out. Sift through items in your closet and really think about the last time you wore it. If it’s too small, damaged, or old, consider giving it a new home.

Create three piles to make it easier to sort: keep, throw away, and sell/donate. Selling clothing is easier than ever before. There are plenty of phone apps to list your unwanted clothing. Plus, with vintage clothing becoming a hot trend, you might even make a pretty penny on some of your older items.

Freshen It Up

Once you get everything out of the closet, seize the opportunity to give your closet a deep clean. Wipe down shelves and hanging rods. Vacuum the floor and even consider cleaning the carpet. Closets can easily get musty over time, especially if you’ve had unworn clothing hanging for years.

After your deep cleaning, consider giving the closet a fresh coat of paint. Not only does painting the interior get rid of scuffs and imperfections, but it will also bring new life and inspiration to your wardrobe. Opt for lighter colors and be hesitant when exploring outside of neutrals. If you chose a strong color, it could distort the colors of your clothes, making it hard to choose a well-paired outfit.

Organize It

Ideally, cleaning out your unwanted clothing will give you plenty of new space in your closet. That said, if your master closet is still lacking storage you have a couple of options.

The first option is to invest in a closet organizing system. There are plenty available for purchase or you can DIY it by adding extra shelves, hanging bars, and baskets. Consider labeling the baskets or color-coding them for socks, t-shirts, undergarments, etc.

The second option is to store your out-of-season clothing elsewhere and keep only that season’s items in your closet. This way, you’re not taking up space with heavy, dark sweaters and coats during the spring and summer months. Shoes also take up a significant amount of space, so consider putting away your winter boots for safe-keeping until the weather permits.

Add Your New Spring Looks

Once you get your closet organized, treat yourself to a few new trendy spring items. Compliment your wardrobe with a piece of colorful jewelry, like these new clover earrings. Inspire summer to come sooner and shop for a new swim suit. Whether you prefer a floral one-piece swim suit or a trendy sunflower bikini, they’ll both flatter a  fresh wardrobe nicely. Top off your new look with a matching handbag and colorful strap and you’re all set for spring!

Warm weather is just around the corner, so give you master closet the makeover it deserves and get the new year season started fresh. With a clean, organized closet you can guarantee you’ll be looking and feeling your best this spring.

What Trends to Leave in 2019

It’s a new year, so let’s focus not only on a new you, but on what trends to leave in 2019. We all know some trends should disappear. The year 2020 should have a focus on modesty and natural beauty when it comes to your appearance. Clean out your closet, throw away the clothes you’ve had for years, and say hello to 2020.

Leave the Bell Sleeves to the 1970s Era

You won’t be able to walk into your local department store – or any store for that matter – and find these shirts. In fact, some people believe that this particular trend shouldn’t have been resurrected. These shirts originated in the 1970’s era and bode well for festivals, concerts, and themed parties. Suede, bell bottoms, and bell sleeves were the definition of fashion in the 1970s.

Ditch the Boxy Crop Tops

When looking for something figure-flattering, these shirts aren’t your best options. They show off your stomach but they don’t compliment anyone. They most definitely don’t compliment your figure. It’s time to say, “hasta luego” to these shirts and bury them deep with 2019.

If you want to wear crop tops during the summer in 2020, find some that are fitting and that flatter your figure – but please, nothing too short.

Get Rid of the Plaid

The only thing that matches plaid is plaid. Let’s ditch the plaid and stick with simple floral patterns or just solid colors. Yeah, plaid became a hot trend in 2018 and 2019, but let’s let it go in 2020, empty your closet and get rid of the plaid!

Unlike other closet staples, you can’t wear plaid all the time because it’s the type of fashion that is memorable. You can wear the same blue jeans 3 times a week without a second glance, but the same cannot be said for a plaid skirt. Why have something in your closet that you can wear only a few times a year? The history of plaid attire dates back thousands of years, so we think it’s time to leave it behind.

Say Bye to Oversized

Bigger is no longer better for the new year. Why would we want to wear oversized tees with oversized shorts, or even jewelry? If you decide to bring in oversized clothing please make sure you pair your oversized tee with a pair of skinny jeans, but let’s hope you leave the oversized in the past.

Rather than opting for big clothing, opt for a big statement. Clothing sets are a great way to add comfort and style to your wardrobe this year.

Ditch the Biker Shorts and Yoga Pants

In 2020, biker shorts and yoga pants should be used for exactly what they were made for. Most of these pieces are cheaply made and consequently, unflattering. Maybe it shows off your curves, but it should never be apart of your daily fashion. If you want to keep them, go for it, just please leave them for exercise-use only.

The year 2020 could do without these trends. The “new year, new me” is a typical saying, but let’s focus on “new year, new trends” too. No more of those boxy crop tops or old, unflattering patterns; 2020 is the year to let your fashion grow.

How to Save Money on Jewelry without Buying Cheap Metals

It’s difficult to find high-quality jewelry at low prices. So instead, you may decide you don’t want to spend $50 on a pair of gold-plated hoops because your local discount fashion store has cheap metal hoops for $5. But the problem with these cheap pieces is that they’ll wear out fast, plus they’re usually not made from sustainable resources. You’ll end up spending more money on 20 pairs of earrings that break and aren’t good for the planet either.

It’s better to invest in a few pieces that cost more initially but will last a long time. Silver, gold, and platinum fine jewelry are the most coveted materials but may be prohibitively expensive. Luckily, there are many nice options between the $5 earrings and $50,000 earrings.

Look for Plated Jewelry

Plated jewelry is a great way to start collecting high-quality pieces with a lower price point. Plating simply means that base metal, such as copper, brass, or nickel, gets coated with a thin layer of a higher-quality metal like silver, gold, or platinum.

The fact that’s it not a solid piece of an expensive metal makes the jewelry much more affordable. And, because the base metals used are strong, the piece won’t bend or break the way a softer material like gold does.

Regardless of whether your personal style leans more trendy or classic, there are many stylish silver or gold-plated pieces available. Begin building your collection with a few more classic pieces with a twist, like gold hoop earrings.

Shop Online

These days, you can buy almost anything online and fine jewelry is no exception.  During your search, you may find places that sell gold, silver or platinum jewelry for deeply discounted prices. However, as the saying goes, “there’s no such thing as a free lunch.” Often these pieces are mass-produced by machinery. Mass-produced pieces may be of lesser quality or use up additional precious resources. Some websites may charge excessive amounts for shipping because their product prices are so low.

To get the most value, look for handcrafted jewelry that will support local economies and artisans. Read reviews, find out where the pieces are manufactured, carefully select your pieces, and make your purchases from there.

Budget for a Jewelry Subscription Box

If you like to stay on trend but are on a tight monthly budget, jewelry can feel like a big splurge. That said, expanding your jewelry collection is still possible, especially with the new trend of jewelry subscription boxes.

Consider creating a budget that allows you to spend $10-$30 per month (or even bi-monthly) on a few trendy pieces of jewelry. Plus, you’ll get the perk of having them delivered right to your door! These pieces aren’t likely to be plated or made of genuine silver, but you’ll get the fun of trying out new jewelry anyway.

Scour the Clearance Rack

Some of the best jewelry deals can be found in the clearance section. When you’re in a store, check out the red tags in the fine jewelry section first to see if there are any great markdowns on high-quality jewelry. Sale jewelry is even easier to find online, as most stores have a specific “SALE” section on their websites.

Also, be on the lookout for coupon codes that give you free shipping, or consider combining orders to get the minimum shipping amount required for free shipping.

Spend More on the Classics

One good strategy when you begin collecting jewelry is to start with the classics. Classics are things that will never go out of style. They’ll also go with any outfit.

Items like strands of simple pearls and diamond studs that can dress up any outfit are always great choices. Hoop earrings are another go-to classic look for anyone. A simple chain with a pendant also matches with everything.

It’s worth spending a little bit more on these items because you’ll want to keep them forever. Think of them as pieces you can pass down to a younger relative.

No matter what your budget, it’s possible to start investing a little bit in jewelry. Start small, look for deals, and select plated jewelry to get the most value for your money.

5 Makeup Trends for Busy Moms

Busy moms know that creating time for a makeup routine in the morning often transforms into rushing out the door with a coffee in one hand and car keys in another. Make room for a makeup brush in that hand with one (or all) of these five makeup trends that will have you looking and feeling beautiful all day long.

1 – Make Yourself Blush

If you only have 30 seconds in the morning, opt for blush. This quick trick will brighten up your face and create the appearance of a full night’s rest (whether you actually slept or not). Use a brush to apply it onto the apples of your checks, or use your fingers to blend the color back if you’re using a liquid blush. Be sure to toss it in your bag in case you need to refresh later in the day.

2 – Throw on a Bright Lip

Whether it’s the only makeup you’re wearing or the final touch, a bright lip will take your look to the next level. Not only does it add a pop of color to your face and match any fun accessories you’re wearing, but it also provides necessary hydration to your lips. A lip balm with a sheer tint is a healthy and fashionable choice that will leave your lips looking great and feeling healthy.

When you’re feeling bold, a fun color choice is a perfect pick-me-up. Red is a forever classic, while pinks are fun for summer. Whichever you choose, opt for long-lasting so it will stay on throughout all your cups of coffee. Plus, it’s easy to touch up lipstick throughout the day, whether you’re headed to the beach or soccer practice.

3 – Full Coverage with Foundation

To create the illusion that you aren’t wearing any makeup at all, go for a tinted moisturizer or BB cream. It’s a simple way to make people wonder “how does she do it?” and will give your skin a healthy shield of SPF. The easiest way to apply this is with your fingers. This will also ensure you don’t use too much. If you want a little extra coverage, use a foundation brush and powder foundation to color-correct and erase any blemishes.

4 – The Perfect Natural Eye

Remember these three E’s: eyebrows, eyelashes, and eyeliner. This trifecta will ensure you look refreshed and ready to go, and it’s worth the extra seconds in the morning. Use a brow pencil to sculpt and fill out your brows–it will make all the difference, even if your eyebrows haven’t seen tweezers in months. Then, use a dark eyeshadow or eye pencil for your eyeliner.

These are especially helpful if you don’t have a steady hand–simply use a brush to create a line on the top eyelid. And for a final touch, throw on a layer of mascara to make your eyes truly pop (pro-tip: only apply to the top layer). This tried-and-true step will make your eyes look bigger and more awake for the entire day.

5 – Highlight Your Beauty

This beauty trend has quickly become a mainstay in the makeup routines of every busy woman. A gold-toned highlighter looks great on all skin types and tones and will leave your skin looking fresh and healthy. Apply to your cheekbones, the bridge of your nose, and in the corners of your eyes to get glowing. This is also a great look if you have a date-night scheduled for later as well.

A beauty routine doesn’t have to take more than five minutes of your time and you deserve it! And no, this doesn’t mean applying your mascara at the next red light. Between putting toys in their baskets, getting shoes on the kids, and checking off your to-do list, it’s hard to find time for yourself. All of these tips and tricks range from full-glam to a simple, natural look that will have you ready to face the day ahead. It doesn’t even require waking up earlier to allow yourself the space to feel like your most beautiful self.

Date Outfit Ideas That Are Sure to Impress

Whether you’re prepping for a first date, heading out on the town with your longtime sweetie, or gearing up to celebrate a major romantic occasion, these date-night outfit ideas will make you look (and feel!) fantastic, no matter what type of activity you’ll be doing.

Coffee Date

Meeting a new romantic interest at your neighborhood coffee shop? For a stress-free, no-frills (but still super cute) look, try layering a lacy little dress over your favorite tank top or t-shirt, with a pair of white sneakers (note to self: sneakers with dresses = always a good look!) It’s easy, it’s fashionable, and there’s no doubt your date will be impressed.

Brunch Date

When the mimosas are flowing like water, the waffles and avocado toast are piling up on every table, and everyone’s Instagramming their food, it can only mean one thing: Brunch! If you’re going on a brunch date, putting together a stylish-yet-casual outfit is key, since you’ll undoubtedly want to fit in with the other fashionable brunch-goers.

You can’t go wrong with a slouchy, oversized sweater and skinny jeans or boyfriend jeans and a fitted tee—both outfits are relaxed, hip, and leave plenty of room in case you decide to have an extra pancake or two—plus, you can always accessorize with a scarf or dangly earrings if you want to dress up your look a little. Just don’t forget your favorite pair of sunglasses and a light cardigan since you’ll probably be enjoying your Bloody Marys and omelets on a sunny patio.

Fancy Dinner Date

If your sweetie snagged dinner reservations at a fancy restaurant, now’s the time to pull out all the stops—after all, it’s not every day that you get to get dolled up, so don’t be afraid to bring your A-game. Been dying to wear that minidress that’s been hanging in your closet for forever? Now’s the time to bust it out! Pair it with strappy heels and some lovely accent jewelry, and you’ve got one killer date night outfit on your hands.

Dancing Date

Going out dancing? You’ll want to wear something that’s sexy, sure—but don’t wear a dress that rides up, otherwise you’ll be stuck pulling your dress down all night instead of showing off your moves on the dance floor. Splurge on a dress that fits all your curves just right, and don’t be afraid to wear something bright, colorful, or boldly patterned.

Picnic-in-the-Park Date

If the sun is shining, there’s nothing better than picking up some snacks and bringing a blanket to the park. If you’re going on a casual picnic, wear your absolute favorite pair of jeans with a cute, flowy top (bonus if it’s floral-patterned), or pretty printed shorts with a cropped cardigan, and be sure to bring along a cute backpack to store your picnic goodies in (and accessorize with). The idea is to look relaxed and outdoorsy, yet adorable.

Art Museum Date

For a trip to an art museum, it’s time to get creative and confident: Pick a bold-patterned top and neutral pants, or when in doubt, go with an all-black ensemble, like your hottest black leather jacket and black jeans. You could even go with a fancy dress, just pair it with a rocker-chic bomber jacket for an edgier look. Don’t worry, you’ll fit right in with the artsy crowd.

Movie Date

Headed out to see the new Avengers movie with your main squeeze? If you know you’ll be sitting in a cold, darkened theater and probably chowing down on a big vat of buttery popcorn, strategy is crucial: Now’s not the time to wear a nice cocktail dress with spaghetti straps.

For a casual movie date, when you need something sexy that’ll still feel comfy for two hours, you can’t go wrong with a maxi skirt. Pair it with a fitted jean jacket and cute sneakers for a pared-down, on-trend look.

Sports Date

Are you and your sweetheart the sporty types? If you’re planning a hike, bike ride, or other physical activity for your date, it’s definitely important to dress appropriately. (No wedge heels or short skirts!) Go with a casual pair of jeans and good walking shoes for this one; just wear a cute, cozy tee and keep everything fitted to avoid looking too sloppy.

Scenic Drive Date

If your significant other suggests a drive through the mountains with the top down, you have a few outfit ideas to decide between. First off, it’s important to dress comfortably if you’re going to be in the car for a while. Consider your most comfortable pair of jeans or jeggings to avoid the constant stress of adjusting a skirt or dress. Top this look off with your best white t-shirt and accessorize with a choker and unique bracelets. This will ensure that whether your long drive entails a luxury SUV or a flashy sports car, you’ll be sitting pretty – literally.

Regardless of whether you’re planning to go out dancing, see a movie, or have a picnic in the park, if you want to put an end to the what-should-I-wear dilemma once and for all, it helps to plan out your date outfits in advance. Just remember: Confidence is the most important element of any outfit, so don’t wear something you’re uncomfortable in just because it “looks cool.” Jeans that dig into your stomach, painful heels, and ill-fitting shirts are a no-go—keep it comfortable (yet stylish!), stay on top of trends, and always wear what feels best to you.

7 Functional and Unique Bridesmaids’ Gift Ideas

Your wedding is a special day that’s best shared with friends and family. Your bridesmaids help make your experience extra-special, so you want to show them appreciation. Bridesmaids gifts are a great way to commemorate the occasion.

There are plenty of products marked “bridesmaid” on the market. These are cute on the actual day, but after the wedding has passed, who’s going to want to wear a T-shirt that says “bridesmaid” to the grocery store? Instead, choose something unique and memorable to give your bridesmaids that they will treasure.

Here’s a list of some functional and unique bridesmaid gift ideas. Choose something that’s right for your girls’ personalities, your time limits, and your budget.

1. Picture Frame

A picture frame is a thoughtful and relatively low-cost option. Have your photographer take a shot with you and each of your bridesmaids. Perhaps you can designate a spot after the ceremony where you want this to happen (for example, in front of the wedding arch or a particularly nice view), or instruct your photographer to get candids of each of you.

You can gift each girl the frame before the wedding and let them know you’ll send a photo as soon as you receive them from your photographer. Then, print the best shot and send it to your bridesmaid after the wedding.

2. Experiences

The memory of an experience can last much longer than a physical object. Why not gift your bridesmaids with something fun? Treat them to a mani-pedi before the wedding. They’ll look good and you can bond over being pampered. Remember to pre-book this event well in advance to ensure all your bridesmaids can attend. Many salons even offer wine or let you bring in your own.

A winery tour is another great experience gift. Find a wine tasting tour near you. If you want to make a whole day of it, many offer shuttles, limos, or buses to all the various places.

If wine and nails aren’t your thing, consider a relaxing day at the spa. Schedule massages or facials (or both) for your bridesmaids before the wedding. It will help them relax and look their best. There are spa retreats located all over the United States. As a bonus, many are nearby wineries and also offer nail services, so if you’re ambitious, you can combine all three!

3. Jewelry

Everyone likes a pretty new pair of earrings or a necklace. For a personalized twist, get them monogrammed jewelry.

Or, because you know your bridesmaids better than anyone, you can choose something that suits each person’s individual style, like dangling earrings, delicate chains, or bold chokers.

4. Customized Practical Items

If you want to stay on the practical side of things, you can get customized accessories for everyday items.  Water bottles will be used every day. At Zazzle, you can add your own image or logo and there’s no minimum order requirement. Lively Bottle offers customization or ready-made designs.

Personalized phone cases are another special yet functional gift. Just be sure to get all the makes and models of your bridesmaids’ phones first.

A personalized mirror compact is a handy gift to give, too. It’s something the bridesmaids will use constantly. You can add their names, a favorite quote from a movie or show you all like, an inspirational message, or an inside joke.

If your budget allows it, consider a customized backpack or carry-on size bag. This allows your girls to remember your special day for years to come. It can travel with them as they move across the country or just for an overnight trip!

5. Totes

On the note of bags, totes are a great item to have, especially if your bridesmaids do a lot of traveling. They may even be traveling to your wedding and would appreciate a tote. A customized tote would be a fantastic and practical gift for your loved ones. It’s also great to use for the beach. Every time they use it, they’ll think of you. Add a monogram to make the gift stand out even more.

Create your own at By Malka!

6. Shoes

If your wedding venue requires your girls to wear a certain type of shoe, why not gift your bridesmaids venue-appropriate shoes? Wedge sandals or espadrilles won’t sink into the ground and of course, can be re-worn. These may especially be appreciated at destination weddings, where it would be one less thing for them to worry about packing.

If you’re concerned about getting shoes that will fit everyone, some cute flip-flops would fit the bill. Some places even sell them in bulk for wedding guests! Let your girls and guests kick off their shoes and slip into something for comfortable.

7. Monogrammed Pajamas

Satin pajamas personalized with your bridesmaids’ names or initials will be worn over and over again.. Hang out in the pajamas while getting ready (these button at the front so they won’t have to pull it over their heads, ruining their make-up).

The possibilities for bridesmaids’ gifts are limited only by your imagination (and wallet). Get creative and think about what the women in your life need or what kinds of splurges they would love. This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to show these ladies how much you appreciate and honor their presence in your life.

6 Ways to Make a Simple Outfit Pop

Simple outfits are the foundation of fashion – a plain cake waiting to be decorated.   Just a few basic wardrobe essentials can be worn an endless number of ways if you know what you’re doing. A little black dress (LBD) in a classic silhouette can be dressed up for a wedding, worn to work, or hit a poolside barbecue. A T-shirt and jeans that fit well can go from rock-star glam to casual brunches.

But how can you make a simple outfit appropriate for any occasion? More important, how can you make an outfit pop and stand out in a crowd?

One word: accessories. These can be switched out and combined to liven up all your classic outfits. Choose from among these options to give yourself some personality and flair.

1. Nails

People don’t usually think of nails as an accessory the same way they think of purses and shoes, but they definitely can be, depending on their finish.

One easy way to make your look stand out is by having a statement nail. Bright colored nail polish, unique patterns, and glued-on pearls are just a few of this year’s top nail trends. You can get these looks with regular nail polish or with nail tips, in a nail salon or at home.

Some people naturally gravitate toward longer nails. If you’re undecided, longer nails are great for formal occasions, while for more casual outings, you might want to keep them short and sweet.

Rock your favorite LBD with a bright red polish on coffin shaped nails for your next cocktail or dinner party. There’s no doubt you’ll turn heads and get compliments on that duo.

2. Handbags

A stylish handbag is something you can swap out readily every day. Macramé, woven, or straw handbags are one of the top trends this year. Necklaces: As far as necklaces, look for delicate gold chains that you can layer and unique chokers that will have your peers inspired.

Bracelets: A really distinctive bracelet can set off an entire outfit. Try a big cuff or something delicately beaded to make your look absolutely unique. Consider wearing your everyday watch with layers bangles or a leather wrap bracelet.

Rings: Bold rings also demand attention. Consider laying different metals and sizes across your hands for a real statement look. For more relaxed environment, pick a different finger on each hand to decorate with rings. Just wearing one can change the whole attitude of a simple outfit, making a black dress whimsical or jeans and a T-shirt sexy.

4. Outerwear

Depending on where you’re going, you can really change up your look by adding a jacket. A blazer will dress up a pair of jeans into casual business wear or make a sleeveless black dress suitable for the office. A kimono jacket is a pretty, romantic look that softens the streetwear hardness of denim.  A cardigan sweater worn with a pair of jeans gives your outfit a preppy, feminine air. Try it oversized or belted for a whole new look.

A printed, 90s-throwback bomber jacket is a cool twist on plain-material coverings.  And of course, a leather motorcycle jacket added to any outfit will instantly give you a rock-star flair with a tough edge.

5. Shoes

Nothing sets the mood for an outfit like footwear. Shoes give you the opportunity to add flare to any simple outfit. For example, leather boots provide a fierce look to the femininity of a little black dress, making the outfit less delicate. Knee-high riding boots always stand out in a crowd and likewise can balance out the sweetness of a dress. Or, wear either with your jeans for an all-around street-ready look.

A pair of stilettos in a fun color, like red or silver, can instantly take any outfit to date night or the club. Pair these shoes with a basic dress or go for a more casual look by adding stilettos to a black jean outfit.

Consider comfort when traveling any sort of distance, too. If you need to do some walking but want to look a little dressier, a low-heeled ankle bootie goes well with long skirts or slightly cuffed jeans. Sandals worn with any outfit make it instantly appropriate for any outdoorsy spring or summer occasion—choose a style that’s both practical and fashionable. If you’re headed to the beach, choose a shoe that pairs well with your cover up, for a beach-ready outfit.

6. Tights

One of the simplest ways to give a twist to the little black dress is to add a pair of unique tights. Lacy, polka-dotted, or colored, tights add a stylish flair to a simple outfit. Try a bold color or pattern to really stand out. Consider wearing tights under your most distressed jeans, to add a distinctive flare to an otherwise basic outfit.

No matter what accessories you choose, remember that if you let your personality shine through, you can’t go wrong. Online accessory shopping can be the perfect way to spring up your simple outfits. Have fun and be bold!

6 Items Every Woman Needs In Her Wardrobe

Fashion can take many forms. Not only is fashion a way to protect you against the elements, but it also serves as a means to express yourself. The best quality of fashion is that it is both a language and an art form. Just a few simple additions to your outfit can have a tremendous effect, oftentimes boosting your confidence through the roof.

The idea of having closet essentials is both exciting and intimidating. How are you supposed to find items that play such a substantial role in your wardrobe? We are here to help streamline your wardrobe so that picking the perfect outfit is painless and easy. While no two styles are identical, there are a handful of wardrobe staples that every woman should have in their closets regardless of your daily “look.” Here are the six items every woman needs in her wardrobe:

Little Black Dress
The timeless Little Black Dress, or ‘LBD’, is an absolute must-have for your wardrobe. The term “little black dress” was first used in 1926, in an American Vogue illustration of Coco Chanel’s first black ‘Ford.’ It has since emerged as a staple suitable for a wide array of social events.

An LBD, while simple, is a versatile piece that has survived the tumultuous ongoings of the ever-growing fashion industry. An LBD can easily be dressed up or down and looks great on anybody (note: the color black does wonders). Plus, they are easy and comfortable whether you’re headed to a pedicure or to an important business meeting. Throw on a moto jacket and booties or some classic pearl earrings to serve some seriously righteous looks.

White Sneakers
Like the LBD, white sneaks have emerged as another basic staple that should find a home in every woman’s closet. Household brand names like Adidas, Reebok, and K-Swiss and high-end, luxury names like Gucci and Balenciaga have catapulted these delightfully simple staple pieces to the forefront of the fashion industry.

White sneakers were initially introduced to the market in the 80s and 90s. Today, white sneakers are a part of the retro fashion revival that has completely taken over contemporary street fashion. This wardrobe must-have makes the day a breeze by allowing an easy transition from work, to the gym, and out on the town.  Pair your white kicks with an LBD and a denim jacket for an effortlessly casual look.

Gold Necklace
Regardless of how many necklaces you own, delicate gold chains are the types of accessories that you’ll most likely be wearing on the day-to-day. They can be easily paired with other items in your closet and they’ll never go out of style. One of the best aspects of fine jewelry is that these items are easy to layer with other necklaces that you have in your closet. Similar to clothing, layering jewelry adds dimension and can be the defining factor to tie your look together.

An “everyday” bag
Having an “everyday” bag that is ideally unbranded and neutral-colored is another essential piece that every woman should have in her closet. As women, we are already well aware of our limited pocket space, and so it’s important to purchase a bag that has enough space to hold all of your belongings. This bag should also be sturdy enough to handle everyday wear and tear.

Plain White Tee
Plain white tees are another basic must-have that you can dress up or dress down. It’s one of the most versatile pieces that you will ever get your hands on, so it’s important to have a few in your closet. A white tee is also a great addition to a comfortable travel outfit.

Pair your white tee with a pair of boyfriend-cut jeans, a trendy brown belt and cute wedge for something comfortable and casual. Or, spruce it up a big with a skirt and some simple accessories—the choice is yours. All you need to know is that with a plain white tee, any look is perfectly achievable.

A Collared Shirt
Collared shirts are the types of items that look good with almost anything you pair it with. Whether you’re headed to a night out on the town or to your weekly business meeting, a collared shirt is both comfortable and versatile. This shirt has been reinvented in many different colors, shapes, and forms from your classic striped button down, to a modern deconstructed, off-the-shoulder blouse.

Wear it with solid color jeans or mix it up with a printed skirt for something more fun and daring (striped shirts look amazing with bright colors and animal prints.) Tuck it into a denim skirt for some feminine flair, layer it with a sweater, or try throwing it over a crop top. Keep a few of these shirts in different colors and patterns and they’ll surely get good use.

While plenty of these items seem basic, it’s important to remember that these are the items that make up the majority of your looks. They’re meant to help build a wardrobe that you’ll be able to pull ensembles out of every single day. These kinds of closets are enduring, and allow you to eliminate the stress when you’re trying to put an outfit together.  Whether you’re going for an easy, breezy casual look to take a trip to the supermarket or full-on star-studded glam look, these wardrobe essentials will be able to fully prepare you, no matter the occasion.

8 Comfortable Yet Stylish Outfits to Wear While Traveling

Travel can be an uncomfortable experience, but it doesn’t have to be! Often times you’re squished into a tight seat, the temperature is either too hot or too cold, and it’s hard to relax until you get to your final destination.

Here are a few outfit ideas to consider for your next trip to ensure that you’re comfortable in whatever travel situation you find yourself in.

Refined Cozy

Celebrities are well rehearsed in the world of travel. Because of this, it’s easy to turn to them for comfortable and stylish travel outfit inspiration. One of the most common looks you’ll see among start in airports is a short wedge shoe, designer jeans, detailed belt, and simple t-shirt. Not only is this outfit comfortable for travel, but it also allows for easy accessorizing. Add a hat, cute handbag, and some trendy jewelry to round out this look!

While it’s not ideal, it’s sometimes necessary to travel in business attire. If you’re headed straight to the office, consider these outfit ideas first. White or black ankle-length dress pants are always appropriate for business attire, plus they allow for flexibility with the rest of the outfit. Pair them with a button-down, collared shirt and some cozy slip-on shoes, like ballet slippers or flats. 4 Fashion Trends Taking Charge in 2019

We know you were just getting into the swing of things with your winter wardrobe. That said, now that 2018 is behind us, it’s time to start thinking about the upcoming fashion trends taking charge in 2019. Don’t worry—spring isn’t quite here yet, so there are a couple of months to transition your wardrobe for the new season.

If you’re already feeling the pressure to immediately clean out your closet, we suggest a piecemeal approach. Purchase one thing at a time, stick to trends that work for you, and don’t feel like you need to completely revamp your look. Trends can be subtly woven in, in the ways that work for you and your budget. That’s what true style is all about.

Here’s what fashion trends you can expect as 2019 rolls on:

While bike shorts are certainly an unexpected twist in fashion trends, they are an easy addition to your new wardrobe. You might be asking yourself, bike shorts are for the Tour de France, not Paris Fashion Week, right? Believe it or not, elevated bike shorts as a trend have been slowly creeping into the fashion world since 2018, when Off-White’s Spring runway collection prominently featured the look. They’ve since appeared in a number of Spring 2019 shows, and everyone – from Fashionista to Women’s Wear Daily – is forecasting them as one of the hottest trends of 2019.

Bike shorts are surprisingly versatile and easy to style. You can dress them up with a loose fitting blazer, pumps, and a chunky, top handle bag. Another one of our favorite looks is to wear them under your favorite slip dress that’s just a touch too short. They add a unique flare and are a great way to add a subtle splash of color to any look.

Remember neon? It seems like the last time we saw neon was sometime during the mid-aughts. Neon is one of those trends that comes to us in waves every couple of years and we are pleased to announce the look’s addition to 2019 fashion trends.

Neon is great because it can be bold subtle and bold. You can go with a luminous statement dress, or you can use it as an accent on a more down-to-earth look. in 2019, try to complement neon accents with more sober color palettes. One way to incorporate neon into your wardrobe is to wear a pair of neon earrings with a black dress, or pair neon stilettos with simple jeans and a cotton tee.

Neon is interesting because it pairs well with a larger profile of colors than you might expect it to. Whether you’re wearing neon with more neutral colors, jewel tones, or other neon, you’ll be impressed with how it livens up your look this year.

In 2018, PVC and latex were popular materials in accessories, and according to StyleCaster, they’re back in a big way in 2019. Expect to see PVC and latex coats, skirts, bags, shoes, dresses, and pants…everywhere. Although they’re fun, eye-catching, and definitely a breath of fresh air from the usual fashion fare, they’re not immediately intuitive materials to style. We recommend limiting how many PVC or latex pieces you include in a look because they can quickly become hot and uncomfortable.

In addition to that, it can be difficult to find a shape that works well with your body type. One easy work around for this is picking up a pair of PVC or latex leggings. They work well with most body shapes and you won’t get as overheated in them as you might in a full PVC or latex dress. When styling a full look, keep mind that the materials are best paired with light, simple embellishments, like this drum gold chain necklace.

Fringing is all the rage right now, and it’s a trend that’s going international. One explanation for this might be the “modern hippie” renaissance that’s going on in the fashion world. We’re also seeing a resurgence of tie-dye, wider cut pants, feathers-as-accessories, and denim vests. Fringe is a great look on everything from dresses to blouses, but we love it most on purses.

We hope you’re as excited for the trends ahead as we are. So far, the 2019 trend forecast is fun, youthful, and most importantly, easy. The looks we’re seeing pop up across runway shows and on racks work for every body type and price point. If you’re feeling a little shy, our general recommendation is to test with accessories before committing to the full look. It’s one of the best ways to see if a look is working for you, without the hassle of having to dive into the deep end with something that might be less familiar.
